Annual Cookie Exchange Held at Bell Clemmons

On Tuesday, December 13th members of the Coffee with the Girls group met at The Belle-Clemmons House for their annual cookie exchange. The B&B, which was recently featured in the Southport Home Tour, was decorated for the occasion. Coffee with the Girls, which meets monthly, allows (both male and female) members of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce to connect in an informal setting to network and gain additional knowledge on varying topics that pertain to owning and working in the business community.

Local Students Honored at Good Neighbor Breakfast

Thirty students at South Brunswick Middle School were honored on Friday, December 2nd for being “Good Neighbors” in their school and in their communities. Honorees, along with their families, were invited to attend the award ceremony which took place in the school’s media center. Breakfast was shared while guest speaker, the Honorable Jason Disbrow, shared what it means to be a good neighbor. Teachers of the students then presented the awards while sharing briefly why the student was chosen to be honored. Holly Jolly Time at Christmas Parade on Oak Island

The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce kicked off the holiday season with their annual Christmas by the Sea Parade on Saturday, December 3rd. Always taking place the first Saturday in December, the parade began at 2pm at the Oak Island Town Hall and traveled 2.4 miles. The parade was full of beautifully decorated floats, fire trucks, marching bands, and more. The big finale included Mr. & Mrs. Claus ridding with the Oak Island Fire Department.

Email Marketing Workshop Series Held at Chamber

Over the course of three months, members of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce have been fine-tuning their e-mail marketing skills. Melanie Diehl, Your Social Media Gal held three workshops at the chamber offices, "The Power of the Inbox" and two "E-mail Marketing Boot Camps." Christmas Gift Show a Success

The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural Christmas Gift Show debuted Sunday, November 20th at the St. James Community Center. The event highlighted local retailers and restaurateurs while bringing convenience to holiday shopping. Attendees had the opportunity to shop-till-they-dropped in one single location, while helping to support the local economy.Organizers estimate that there were 600 people in attendance at the free event, most of whom left with purchases in hand. The Christmas Gift Show featured 30 vendors, photo opportunities with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a silent auction benefiting The Brunswick County Literacy Council (BCLC) and a book drive.
