64 Students Participate in Job Shadowing

Job Shadow Day for South Brunswick High School was held on 2/9/17 and sixty-four students participated in the opportunity to explore a wide variety of careers.  Several students were scheduled to job shadow on alternate days.  The students did an outstanding job while shadowing.  They were professional, respectful, pleasant, inquisitive, and professionally dressed.  The business sites were very impressed with the students.
The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce Education Committee assisted Brunswick County Career Ready in placing the students in appropriate sites.

Sweet Treat at Coffee with the Girls

The ladies of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce met at Side Street Bakery for networking. While there we enjoyed some yummy treats provided by Christina Willetts the Owner/Operator of Side Street Bakery located at 417-A N. Howe Street in Southport. Side Street Bakery recently launched their new website at www.sidestreetbakery.net
The next Coffee with the Girls will be held on March 21st at 8am at Pescado y Amor on Oak Island. Speaker will be Betsy Kimmel from Laugh & Breathe Yoga. Her topic will be Mindful Meditation.

Oak Island to host its 17th Annual Lighthouse Run on April 22nd

Oak Island to host its 17th Annual Lighthouse Walk/Run on April 22nd. The fun event aimed for all fitness levels is set to take place April 22, 2017.
Participants will Phlock to the North Carolina Beach town to participate in the Oak Island Lighthouse Walk/Run on Saturday, April 22nd . The event, sponsored by Dosher Memorial Hospital offers fitness activities on the beautiful coast for all levels with a ½ marathon, 10k, 5k, and One Mile Fun Run.
Embracing the coastal vibe Lighthouse Run/Walk participants are encouraged to run in their favorite Jimmy Buffett inspired attire. Additional activities for participants include a Welcome Party on Friday night with live entertainment ...

Several Area Restaurants Attend Safe Plates Course

Area restaurants attended a three day Certified Food Protection Manager Course - Safe Plates at the Chamber. 
NC Safe Plates is a food safety certification course developed by North Carolina State University and taught by representatives of the Brunswick County Center NC Cooperative Extension.
This is convenient for our local businesses thanks to a partnership between the Brunswick County Center of NC Cooperative Extension and the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce.

Mob Hits Boo & Roos

On Thursday, February 9th the Cash Mob convened at the corner of East Moore/South Davis Streets in Southport then proceeded to “Mob” Boo & Roo’s located at 112 E. Moore Street.  About 25 local mobsters participated and supported this locally owned and operated small business while taking full advantage of the “Cash Mob” specials only available during the event.  At the conclusion of shopping,  the “Mob” was invited to celebrate and socialize at Thai Peppers.   The next Shop Mob will meet at the corner of East Moore & South Davis Streets in Southport on Saturday, March 11th at 11am.  The Mob is open to the public ...
