Martin Brossman conducted a mini-seminar on Wednesday, February 7 at the BCC Odell Williamson Auditorium for the BCC Small Business Center. This hour and a half was packed full of valuable information, not the least of which was the knowledge that the Small Business Center at Brunswick Community College is a jewel in our own ‘back yard’. They offer FREE 1 on 1 consulting for all businesses from start-ups and beyond. They do not have a large budget for marketing so please pass the word.

Safe Plates 2018 Class

In partnership with the NC Cooperative Extension in Brunswick County, the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce hosted NC Safe Plates course in the Chamber's Conference Room.
NC Safe Plates is a food safety certification course developed by NC State University. Food service managers successfully completing the exam will meet the 2013 FDA Food Code requirement for an American National Standards Institution approved Certified Food Protection Manager. Managers will receive a certificate to display in their operation which will verify to the local Environmental Health Department that they are in compliance.

Cash Mob Goes Swimming at Seaside Mermaid

On Tuesday, January 30th the Cash Mob struck The Seaside Mermaid located at 8903 E. Oak Island Drive in Oak Island.  While supporting this locally owned and operated small business the mob took full advantage of the “Cash Mob” specials only available during the event.  After shopping, the “Mob” celebrated and socialized a few blocks away at The Grape & Ale.  The next Shop Mob will meet at 1635 N. Howe Street in Southport on Thursday, February 15th at 4:00pm.    The Mob is open to the public with the only requirement for participation is agreeing to spend a minimum of $20.00 in the shop.
