Coastal Cosmetic Family Dentistry Hosts June 2018 BNAH

On June 13th the members of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce gathered at Coastal Cosmetic Family Dentistry/Coastal Pediatric Dentistry’s Highway 211 Office for Business Networking After Hours.  Members took a tour of the facilities and learned about the many different procedures and state of the art equipment used at both their Bolivia and Oak Island locations.  In response to the great need in the area, another pediatric dentist is being added to the Bolivia office.  Coastal Cosmetic Family Dentistry and Coastal Pediatric Dentistry give back to the community by providing free services with their annual Dentistry from the Heart, Freedom Day (active milit ...

First Seminar in Its Worth the Drive Series Held

The Southport Oak Island Chamber of Commerce-Welcome Center held the first seminar in a series of seminars to prepare the Oak Island - Southport business community for the temporary closing of the G.V. Barbee Bridge in October of this year for several months. Last Thursday morning, members and staff of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce gathered at The Brunswick Center of Southport for their 43rd Annual Meeting and Breakfast @ The Brunswick Center in Southport. This meeting serves as an opportunity for the membership to gather and celebrate and recognize those who have gone above and beyond for the organization and local business community.

Inspiring Children Focus of Small Business Award Winners

Wednesday, the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce announced the recipients of the 2017-2018 Small Business Awards.  Nominations from the Chamber membership and the public were accepted until May 1st.To compete for the awards, a nominee submitted a packet of information for outside review by the Brunswick Community College Small Business Center. SBHS Job Shadowing 2018

Between April and May, forty-six South Brunswick High School students participated in the Brunswick County Schools Career Ready job shadow program. This was an opportunity for students to spend a day exploring a wide variety of careers. Employers provided a real-world glimpse into their daily activities and answered questions about their respective industries. The students did an outstanding job while shadowing. They were professional, enthusiastic, and prepared with engaging questions. The business sites were very impressed with the students. Several students have arranged with the businesses to return for additional job shadow opportunities.

Veterans Park Opens on Oak Island

On May 22nd, many years of planning came to life as Phase I of Veterans Park officially opened at 1408 East Yacht Drive in Oak Island. The park was dedicated in a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to honor those who have and are serving the United States of America. Funding for Veterans Park Phase I in part was provided by CAMA Public Beach & Waterway Grant, CRFL NC Coastal Recreational Fishing License Grant and Town of Oak Island. Additional contributions were made by area businesses and volunteers.

The next phase of the park will be funded by the sale of fundraising bricks, memorial swings and benches. The Town is selling bricks to honor or memorialize those who served in the armed services ...

Mieden Speaks at Coffee with the Girls

“10 things that cause businesses to fail” was the focus of Coffee with the Girls in May at the Wingate by Wyndam Southport. Doug Mieden, Carolina Business and Tax Advisors presented information about growing a business. He gave several examples of how entrepreneurs can benefit by a business plan and encouraged them to hiring a professional if they need assistance in creating and monitoring their plan. The next Coffee with the Girls Networking event will be held on June 19th at 8:00 am in The Office Coffee and Wine Bar, 3280 George II Hwy Boiling Spring Lakes. A benefit of being a member of the Chamber -All members are invited to attend and network.
