The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce continued the It’s Worth the Drive Seminar Series on Monday and Tuesday of this week with a Business Preparedness Resource Panel Discussion.  “Knowledge and planning are key to keeping our small businesses viable during the 6-month disruption in the area’s normal traffic patterns”, said Karen Sphar, Executive Vice President of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce.

2018 Ambassador of the Year Announced

During the Chamber's Annual Meeting, Ben Frazier (The State Port Pilot) was recognized as Ambassador of the Year. In his Ambassador role, Ben represented the chamber at the most ribbon cuttings, visiting fellow members, and attending various events throughout the year.The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce meet once per month for lunch.  In June they enjoyed their lunch meeting at Ports of Call Bistro in Southport.

Chamber Board Joins Local Leaders for Tour of Brunswick Nuclear Plant

Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and staff joined other local community leaders for a on-site visit to the Brunswick Nuclear Plant. After a tour of the plant they were joined by Site Vice President Randy Gideon who gave a presentation about the plant and its operations.

Sheriff & Superintendent Discuss Opioid Crisis

The second session in a series on The Opioid Crisis in Brunswick County & It's Impact was held at the Chamber on June 18th. Panel members Sheriff John W. Ingram, V, Brunswick County Sheriff's Office and Leslie K. Tubb (Col) (R) Superintendent, Brunswick County Schools continued educating the Chamber members about what is being done about the problem. Sheriff John Ingram is also the chair of the Opioid Task Force. The Task Force will be hosting Sam Quinones, author of "Dream Land: The True Tale of America's Opiate Epidemic" on August 23rd at BCC Odell Williamson.
