The Office Hosts February Coffee with the Girls

The Office Coffee and Wine Bar hosted this month's Southport Oak Island Chamber of Commerce-Welcome Center Coffee with the Girls last week. Coffee with the Girls is a great way to network with other women in the business community. It is held the third Tuesday of each month at 8am in varies locations. On March 19th we will be at the Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity Restore (4170 Long Beach Road). Our Speaker will be from the Restore discussing the function of the Restore.

Chamber Donates to Hurricane Relief

The Southport Oak Island Chamber of Commerce-Welcome Center provided additional funding to Brunswick Family Assistance for ongoing Hurricane Relief efforts from funding by the U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament. Martin Register, 2018 & 2019 US Open KMT Chair presented a check for $5,400 to Charles “G” Jackson, Program Manager for Brunswick Family Assistance. This donation with prior donations total almost $8,000 to assist in recovery efforts for those in our community.

Eagle Scout Project Produces New Flag Pole at Chamber

Thank you to Mason Whitworth. Master Whitworth completed work on a new flag pole for the Southport Oak Island Chamber of Commerce-Welcome Center as part of his Eagle Scout Service Project. From design to leading his team to completion he was very organized and did a great job. He is part of the Scout Troop 238.

Restaurants attend Safe Plates Training

Each winter, the Southport Oak Island Chamber of Commerce-Welcome Center annually hosts the Safe Plates training program for food protection manager certification.





NC Safe Plates for Food Safety Managers is a food safety certification course developed by North Carolina State University. Food service managers successfully completing the exam meet the 2013 FDA Food Code requirement for an ANSI (American National Standards Institution) approved Certified Food Protection Manager. Managers will receive a certificate to display in their operation which will verify to the local Environmental Health Department that they are in compliance. SCORE Panel Discusses How to Sell your Products & Services

SCORE Mentors (Cape Fear Region) explored various techniques to sell products or services; ideas that work best for products sold at the retail level or online; and tips on how to sell consulting services at a recent panel discussion at the Southport Oak Island Chamber of Commerce-Welcome Center. SCORE mentor John Schlobohm moderated the panel. NC 4th of July Festival Kicks Off 2019 at Cape Fear Yacht Club Event

The NC 4th of July Festival Committee celebrated the kick-off of another planning year at the Cape Fear Yacht Club the first of February. The Committee meets on the first Monday of the month at 5:30pm in the Southport Oak Island Chamber of Commerce-Welcome Center Conference Room. If you would like to volunteer to serve on the Festival Committee, please feel free to attend the March 4th meeting. This year's Festival Committee Chair is Trisha Howarth.

February Carpool Locations Announced

The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce continues to showcase its business community and give community organizations more exposure thru its promotion called It’s Worth the Drive Carpool.  The Carpool is part of the Chamber’s It's Worth The Drive Go Local campaign and another way the Chamber is showcasing and supporting local businesses during the temporary closing of the G.V. Barbee Bridge.
On Thursdays, the Carpool is Live on the Chamber’s Facebook page beginning at 10:00am.  The carpool riders begin with interviewing the owner of a business on the mainland, then jump in the carpool where a person of interest will discuss a club/organization/program a ...
