Chamber Networking Group Nets Members $1.2 in New Business

In 2019, members of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce transacted over $1.2 million in new sales from the referrals received while attending the weekly Business Connections meetings. Business Connections are structured networking meetings with the sole purpose of referring business and increasing sales between the businesses attending.   It is open to any member of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce.  The types of businesses attending vary and include, finance, restaurants, construction, real estate, insurance, retailers, home based businesses, healthcare and other services. 

“In the Business Connections setting, members are unabashed about asking for business referrals but the key to an individual’s long-term success is building relationships,” said Karen Sphar, Executive Vice President of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce.   She continued by saying “Business Connections is just one of the many programs that are ‘delivering business opportunities’ to our member businesses.”

The Business Connections meetings are held weekly on Tuesdays from 11:45am – 1:00pm.  Business Connections is a sub-committee of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce Business Development Committee and is chaired by Lucinda Arnold, Coastal Painting & Improvements.

Business Connections is a benefit of being a member of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber.  There are no additional fees added to attend Business Connections meetings.   Any non-member businesses may attend two meetings before they are required to join the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce.   The base membership investment for joining the Chamber is $283.00 per year.
