Southport Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce has an exciting lineup of special events for the public including the Christmas by the Sea Parade, Coastal Consumer Showcase, , Oak Island Lighthouse 5k, 10k and Half Marathon, Christmas Gift Show, U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament, N.C. 4th of July Festival and Southport Oak Island Golf Classic.
Thank you to Mason Whitworth. Master Whitworth completed work on a new flag pole for the Southport Oak Island Chamber of Commerce-Welcome Center as part of his Eagle Scout Service Project. From design to leading his team to completion he was very organized and did a great job. He is part of the Scout Troop 238.
The NC 4th of July Festival Committee celebrated the kick-off of another planning year at the Cape Fear Yacht Club the first of February. The Committee meets on the first Monday of the month at 5:30pm in the Southport Oak Island Chamber of Commerce-Welcome Center Conference Room. If you would like to volunteer to serve on the Festival Committee, please feel free to attend the March 4th meeting. This year's Festival Committee Chair is Trisha Howarth.
The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce continues to showcase its business community and give community organizations more exposure thru its promotion called It’s Worth the Drive Carpool. The Carpool is part of the Chamber’s It's Worth The Drive Go Local campaign and another way the Chamber is showcasing and supporting local businesses during the temporary closing of the G.V. Barbee Bridge.

Fall fishing in Southport and Oak Island, NC is legend in North Carolina and beyond. Word of mouth has a lot to do with that, but recognition must be given as well to the community leaders who spearheaded the first U. S. Open King Mackerel Tournament in 1979. These leaders saw the need for an event to demonstrate the beauty, fun and quantity of fish that can be had by fishing the Cape Fear area.Their foresight has led to an event that now enters 400 boats each year. In addition, the festival atmosphere of the event attracts locals and families to enjoy the event as well. The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for its annual business awards: Small Business of the Year, Small Business Customer Service of the Year and Non-Profit Organization of the Year. The nomination deadline is April 30th. Once nominated, the qualifying business or non-profit will be required to submit a nomination packet, which is then presented to the Brunswick Community College Small Business Center for selection.

“Highlighting the Best Local Products and Services”
Southport, NC – The Coastal Consumer Showcase is once again coming to the St. James Community Center March 7th from 4:00pm-7:00pm. Admission is free to the public.
This exciting event gives Brunswick County residents a one-stop-shop to see products and services that local businesses in the community offer. Over 50 businesses will be on hand to answer questions and provide free samples, giveaways and demonstrations. One ticket to the Pick a Prize Auction will be given to those who attend and register, with additional tickets available for sale.

Participants will gather in the North Carolina Beach town to participate in the Oak Island Lighthouse Walk/Run on Saturday, April 13th. The event of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsored by Dosher Memorial Hospital and offers fitness activities on the beautiful coast for all levels with a ½ marathon, 10k, 5k, and One Mile Fun Run.
Registration for the Oak Island Lighthouse Run is now open online with the early registration deadline fast approaching on Monday, March 11th. Those registering after March 11th will spend more to register for the event and will not be guaranteed a t-shirt.

Matthews Ministry held a Give Healthy Food Drive during the holiday season in an effort to provide healthy food to the children the agency serves. Southport Oak Island Chamber of Commerce-Welcome Center and Hamilton Realty Group participated as drop-off locations for the Give Healthy Food Drive.
The Give Healthy campaign is part of a larger campaign launched by the Brunswick Wellness Coalition (BWC) to increase access to healthy, nutritious food for those that are food insecure.
