SKA Taps US Open Director of the Year

The SKA recently awarded the US Open King Mackerel Tournament, Tournament Director of the Year.  The U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament is hosted by the Southport Marina and is an event of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce.  In addition to the $2 million economic impact for area businesses, the event is the number one fundraiser for the Chamber, a local non-profit membership-based organization.  The US Open King Mackerel Tournament oversight is provided by a volunteer Board of Directors, with hundreds of volunteers and organized by the Chamber’s professional staff.  It is heavily supported by the Southport Marina, its many sponsors and the anglers. ...

Cassidy Wins First Worth the Drive Drawing

Congratulations to Dwight Cassidy of Oak Island for being the first winner in the “It’s Worth the Drive Go Local Passport” Drawing held on November 1st.   Mr. Cassidy won $100 for entering the drawing by showing support of local businesses during the temporary closing of the G.V. We had a blast on the first Worth the Drive Go Local Car Pool today! Starting out at Books n Stuff in the Live Oak Shopping Center (between Brunswick Town Florist and San Felipe Restaurant) and ending on Oak Island at Seaside With Coffee at their new location across from Food Lion Shopping Center (in the Coldwell Banker Sea Coast Advantage temporary office building). Local Businesses Prepare for G.V. Barbee Bridge to Oak Island’s Temporary Closure

The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce continued the It’s Worth the Drive Seminar Series on Monday and Tuesday of this week with a Business Preparedness Resource Panel Discussion.  “Knowledge and planning are key to keeping our small businesses viable during the 6-month disruption in the area’s normal traffic patterns”, said Karen Sphar, Executive Vice President of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce.

2018 Ambassador of the Year Announced

During the Chamber's Annual Meeting, Ben Frazier (The State Port Pilot) was recognized as Ambassador of the Year. In his Ambassador role, Ben represented the chamber at the most ribbon cuttings, visiting fellow members, and attending various events throughout the year.The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce meet once per month for lunch.  In June they enjoyed their lunch meeting at Ports of Call Bistro in Southport.

Last Thursday morning, members and staff of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce gathered at The Brunswick Center of Southport for their 43rd Annual Meeting and Breakfast @ The Brunswick Center in Southport. Inspiring Children Focus of Small Business Award Winners

Wednesday, the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce announced the recipients of the 2017-2018 Small Business Awards.  Nominations from the Chamber membership and the public were accepted until May 1st.To compete for the awards, a nominee submitted a packet of information for outside review by the Brunswick Community College Small Business Center.
