NC 4th of July Festival Kicks Off 2019 at Cape Fear Yacht Club Event

The NC 4th of July Festival Committee celebrated the kick-off of another planning year at the Cape Fear Yacht Club the first of February. The Committee meets on the first Monday of the month at 5:30pm in the Southport Oak Island Chamber of Commerce-Welcome Center Conference Room. If you would like to volunteer to serve on the Festival Committee, please feel free to attend the March 4th meeting. This year's Festival Committee Chair is Trisha Howarth.

February Carpool Locations Announced

The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce continues to showcase its business community and give community organizations more exposure thru its promotion called It’s Worth the Drive Carpool.  The Carpool is part of the Chamber’s It's Worth The Drive Go Local campaign and another way the Chamber is showcasing and supporting local businesses during the temporary closing of the G.V. Barbee Bridge.
On Thursdays, the Carpool is Live on the Chamber’s Facebook page beginning at 10:00am.  The carpool riders begin with interviewing the owner of a business on the mainland, then jump in the carpool where a person of interest will discuss a club/organization/program a ...

King Mackerel Tournament Hooks New Logo

Fall fishing in Southport and Oak Island, NC is legend in North Carolina and beyond. Word of mouth has a lot to do with that, but recognition must be given as well to the community leaders who spearheaded the first U. S. Open King Mackerel Tournament in 1979.  These leaders saw the need for an event to demonstrate the beauty, fun and quantity of fish that can be had by fishing the Cape Fear area.Their foresight has led to an event that now enters 400 boats each year. In addition, the festival atmosphere of the event attracts locals and families to enjoy the event as well. Cyber Security Topic of Out of Box Luncheon in January

The topic at the Chamber's January Out of the Box Luncheon was cyber security. Representatives of several member IT companies were on the panel to discuss security measures for our personal and business online activities.
