Southport Oak Island Cash Mob

The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce is always looking for ways to promote awareness and economic benefit for our members.  To that end, the Chamber’s Business Development Committee has initiated a “Cash Mob” for our area. The “Cash Mob” program will target our independently owned and/or operated retail shops and food/drink establishments.

What is a Cash Mob?  A Cash Mob is similar to a Flash Mob but instead of sing/dancing it spends money.  The Chamber will announce a general meeting location, date and time but the mob will not know where they are going until they arrive.

Mob Members:  Mob members can be fellow chamber members, residents or visitors.  The Chamber staff will maintain a database to notify mob participants as well as announce the mob meeting location on our Facebook, Google+ and in our Website Calendar. The mob will not know the shop only a general meeting location.   Cash Mob participants agree to spend $20.00 at the retailer.

Mob Social: After the mob shops they will be invited to follow the leader to socialize at a nearby for an adult beverage or sweet at one of our member brewery, wine shop, bakery, or ice cream (yogurt) parlor.

Schedule:  The Cash Mob will convene at 4:00pm one day per month: January, February, March, April, May, September, October and December.  The day of the week can vary between Tuesdays, Wednesday & Thursday.

Location:  Chamber Staff will hold a drawing each month from all the member retail establishments that are independently owned and/or operated who also sells a variety of items that can be purchased for $20.00.  The business that is drawn will be called to make sure they will be open the day of the mob.  Chamber Staff will also identify and notify a Chamber member food/drink establishment in close proximity to the retail shop for the after mob social.

Drawing:   Each Chamber Member who is an independently owned and/or operated retail shop will be entered once into the drawing.  We will only visit the member drawn once per calendar year.

Those shops may also earn additional entries into the drawing by:

  • Participating in any chamber event
  • Purchasing an ad in the Guide for Living & Recreating
  • Sponsoring a Chamber Event
  • Attending a Chamber Committee Meeting

We hope you agree this will be a fun and tangible benefit to our members.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call Karen or Sarah at (910) 457-6964.
